Anthony Doan
Artist, activist, hungry
Anthony Doan (he/they) is a queer, first-generation Vietnamese-American theatre artist currently based in the Bay Area. Through an anti-racist, culturally informed lens, they strive to viscerally entertain and challenge audiences, provoke political thoughts, and inspire people to empathetically listen to the world in a different vibration.

Acting
Anthony transforms physically, vocally, and emotionally to embody characters from Shakespearean classics to original new plays.

Playwriting
Anthony writes through impulse, imagery, and architecture of revelation through his aesthetic of “epic intimacy:” a sense of grandeur emerging from emotional human truths to elevate towards dramatic magnitude.

Directing
Anthony directs to excavate and process human truth, uplifting the written words in a collaboration between other artists and personal interpretation.

Teaching Artist
Through an approach of play, Anthony creates and implements lesson plans that support safe, fun, and creative learning environments to promote confidence, speech skills, and a passion for performance.
Also, he is available for individual coaching, specializing in audition help, monologue work, and scene study.

- Anthony will perform as Comrade Chin, understudying Song Liling, in M. Butterfly at San Francisco Playhouse this winter, performances run from February 5 to March 14, 2026.
- Anthony is developing I Did Not Kill My Mother; and Other Lies I Tell Myself as a part of Crowded Fire Theater’s Resilience & Development (R&D) Playwrights Lab.
